Overview

Stone Town and its buildings are full of history and stories of the old times of Zanzibar, when sultans and Arabs, Europeans and Zanzibaris wrote the history of the island.

This six-day package starts with two nights in Stone Town, a guided walk through its history and a sunset cruise along the waterfront. On the way to the coast, a tour of a spice farm shows you every spice you can find in Zanzibar. Then you have three nights at a beach hotel on the east or north-east coast.

Your days

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Stone Town

    You are picked up from Zanzibar airport or harbour and transferred to your hotel in Stone Town.

    Overnight in Stone Town, on a bed and breakfast basis.

  2. Day 2

    Stone Town tour and sunset cruise

    After breakfast, set off on a tour of Stone Town. Your guide introduces you to all the buildings of interest and the famous viewpoints.

    Visit the Anglican Cathedral and the slave markets, the Palace of the Sultans, Tip Tip's House, the Old Arabic Fort, Forodhani Park and, of course, the famous Zanzibar doors in the town's little streets.

    Your guide shows you henna art and takes you to the fruit and vegetable market, on a walk through the long history of Zanzibar and its many rulers.

    The afternoon is free to explore further on your own or to relax.

    In the evening, leave the hotel for a sunset cruise along the Stone Town waterfront.

    Dinner is at a local restaurant. Overnight in Stone Town.

  3. Day 3

    Spice tour and transfer to the beach

    Leave the hotel for a spice tour on a farm, where your guide explains every spice you can find in Zanzibar. Did you know that the cinnamon tree has three different smells? Or that green, red and black pepper come from the same plant? Would you recognise vanilla, and do you know why it is so expensive?

    After the tour, you have time to buy spices, soaps and creams, all handmade by the community on the farm.

    Lunch is included.

    After lunch, transfer to your beach hotel on the east or north-east coast. Overnight at the beach hotel, on a half board basis.

  4. Day 4

    At leisure on the beach

    Spend the day at leisure on the beach or by the resort's swimming pool. Scuba diving and diving courses for beginners are available at most of Zanzibar's beach resorts, at additional cost.

    A day at leisure.

    Departure
