Overview

A short budget camping safari in northern Tanzania that starts and ends in Arusha, with two nights under the tent in Karatu and one at a campsite in Mto wa Mbu.

Go down into the Ngorongoro Crater, where monkeys and elephants live in the forest areas, flamingos may gather at the lake and lions hunt on the open savannah. Then take a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, home to hippos, monkeys, tree-climbing lions and flamingos.

Your days

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Arusha to Karatu

    The safari starts with lunch in Arusha town at 12:30. At 14:00, drive to Karatu.

    Dinner and overnight under the tent.

  2. Day 2

    Ngorongoro Crater

    Collect picnic lunches and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend 2,000 feet (over 600 metres) to the floor of the crater for a half-day crater tour.

    Explore the forest areas, home to monkeys and elephants, the lake area, where you may see flamingos, and the open savannah, where lions hunt for food.

    Dinner and overnight under the tent in Karatu.

  3. Day 3

    Lake Manyara

    After breakfast at the camp, drive to Lake Manyara with picnic lunches.

    Enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, home to hippos, monkeys, tree-climbing lions, flamingos and other birdlife.

    Dinner and overnight at a campsite in Mto wa Mbu.

  4. Day 4

    Back to Arusha

    After breakfast, return to Arusha for lunch at a restaurant.

    The safari ends here.
