Short safaris · from South Tanzania
The vast majority of Tanzania's elephant herds live in one remote stretch of safari wilderness: the Selous Game Reserve.
On this safari you travel by road, in a 4x4 safari vehicle, from Dar es Salaam to the reserve, and take part in classic-style game drives as well as boat and walking safaris.
Your days
Leave Dar es Salaam city centre by 4x4 safari vehicle for the Selous Game Reserve.
Have a late lunch at Rufiji River Camp, then set off on an afternoon game drive in the reserve.
Return to the camp for dinner. Overnight at Rufiji River Camp.
Spend a full day game viewing in the reserve, on classic-style game drives exploring the bush in 4x4 vehicles.
Waterbuck, southern reedbuck and bushbuck are common in the Selous, and rare sable antelope, lion and greater kudu also frequent this area.

After breakfast, go on a walking safari in the reserve with an armed ranger. The sights, sounds and smells of a walking safari are a special treat, and creeping up on animals to 'shoot' them with your camera is a thrill.
In the afternoon, take a boat safari through the channels and lakes of the Rufiji River system, among hippos and crocodiles.
You may see a wide variety of herons, storks, ducks, stilts and other water birds, and you also see land mammals such as giraffes and elephants.

Enjoy a morning game drive in the Selous Game Reserve.
After an early lunch at the camp, transfer back to Dar es Salaam, where you are dropped off in the city centre.
